PIRAVOM: The Revenue Department initiated steps to remove the soil used to level a paddy field in Kakkad, near here. The Revenue officials led by Muvattupuzha RDO R Maniyamma reached the spot and began supervision of the removal of the soil filled in the paddy field. The levelling of paddy field issue led to the attack on a retired Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher last Sunday who had tried to prevent further activities on the levelled land. N V John 79, Nellikkal house, Kakkad, was admitted to the Ernakulam Medical Trust hospital with his left leg fractured.Four persons, including a roof tile factory owner, were arrested by the Piravom police in this connection.John had approached the High Court and attained an order against the roof tile factory owner Sabu Paul’s plan to set up a factory on the levelled land. The court also ordered that the filled soil be removed. The owner approached the court to get the order stayed but in vain. As per the court order the District Collector initiated steps to remove the soil.Muvattupuzha Tahsildar T S Swarnamma, Additional Tahsildar Suresh Joseph, DeputyTahsildar B Madhu, and village officers K S Satheesh and Reji John led the team in the presence of Piravom SI George Showriyar. The Revenue report states that about 500 loads of soil have been used to level the paddy field. Six tipper lorries and a JCB machine were used to remove the soil. The soil from the land has been dumped in the revenue land in the Pampakuda panchayat. The expense for removing the soil will be incurred from the land owner, said revenue officials.
