KOZHIKODE: Finally, the city got a taste of the Kerala State Film Awards when Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated the 41st Film Awards organised by the Kerala Chalachitra Academy here on Monday.South Indian superstar Suriya was the chief guest at the function. Minister for Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar, Minister for Social Welfare M K Muneer, Kerala Chalachitra Academy Chairman Priyadarshan, Vice Chairman Gandhimathi Balan, M K Raghavan MP, K M Shaji MLA, Shreyams Kumar MLA, Collector P B Salim, actor Dileep and producer P V Gangadharan took part in the event.While addressing the audience, Minister K B Ganesh Kumar said that the film crisis that exists in the state was temporary and added that what the film industry needed was state-of-the-art facility theatres to replace the old and dilapidated ones. He promised that the government would take appropriate measures to build new theatres in the state. Drawing a hearty applause from the crowd, the minister added that the Kairali theatre in the city would be transformed into a multiplex soon. He also said the only people who could revive the industry were the audience.The minister appreciated the new trends that were being given space in Malayalam film industry and congratulated the award winners for their performances.Salim Ahammad was awarded for the Best Feature Film for his movie ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’. Salim Kumar received the award for the best actor for his role in the same film and Kavya Madhavan for her lead role in the film ‘Gaddama’. Shyamaprasad accepted the award for best director for ‘Electra’ and Mohan Sharma won the award for the best story for ‘Gramam’. The awards for the Best Comedy artist was accepted by a representative of Suraj Venhaarumoodu who was not present at the function. K K Ammini, the mother of Mohan Raghavan, who passed away recently received the award for the best debutant director.
