St Stephen's submits interim report on sexual assault case to HRD Ministry
The interim report was sent by St Stephen's college a day after the HRD Ministry served a notice to the educational institution in connection with the sexual assault case.

Delhi University's prestigious college St Stephen's, which is facing the heat over sexual assault complaint by a student, on Wednesday submitted an interim report to the Union HRD Ministry in connection with the case.

It was sent by the college a day after the HRD Ministry served a notice to the educational institution, seeking a report over the alleged sexual assault case.

Meanwhile, the victim of the alleged sexual harassment spoke to CNN-IBN, narrating how she was harassed for months by the professor. She further alleged that the principal wanted to cover up and didn't want to press for sexual harassment charges.

Alleging that her PhD work was neglected following the complaint, the victim said that she wanted the police to arrest the accused professor.

Earlier, Satish Kumar, the professor accused of sexually harassing a college student for two years, had resigned after a Delhi court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

He allegedly sexually assaulted the student in October 2013 and threatened to throw acid on her.

The student, pursuing her PhD under Kumar, had approached police last week alleging that she was molested by the accused in October, 2013. She has also alleged that college principal Valson Thampu tried to protect him when the matter was reported to the college authorities.

Thampu informed that while the matter was reported to the college's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), a statutory body to deal with such complaints, the girl had also forwarded a complaint to the university's chemistry department.

"It wasn't clear from the HRD directive whether a status report has been sought from both the committees or St Stephen's alone," he said.

Officials in the HRD ministry said that any action in the case will be taken after evaluating the reply. "Any action against St Stephen's principal or any further development will be based on the outcome of the reply received from the university," they said.

DU authorities confirmed that they have received the response from St Stephen's College and the same will be communicated to HRD soon.

"A note from the Principal of St Stephen's college was received by DU late last evening. The university will respond to MHRD's letter soon," DU spokesperson Malay Neerav said.
