A police constable allegedly died by suicide at the Unconventional Operations Training Centre (UOTC) in Nagpur on Saturday, an official said.
The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Mangesh Maske, who served in the State Reserve Police Force (SFPF) Group 4, shot himself with his service rifle around 5:00 pm, said the Wadi police station official.
“He was on deputation to the UOTC, which is an anti-Naxal training facility of Maharashtra police. Sitting in his chair, he pointed the rifle to his chin and fired. He died on the spot,” the official noted.
Mangesh is survived by his wife, who serves with Nagpur police, and two children.
In October last year, a constable of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) allegedly shot himself dead with his service rifle in Farrukhabad.
In another incident in October 2023, a 55-year-old Andhra Pradesh police head constable allegedly shot dead three members of his family – wife and two daughters- and later shot himself to death.
“His name is Venkateswarlu and he was working as a writer in Kadapa two town police station. He worked till 11 pm last night (Wednesday) and took a pistol and some rounds from the police station and went to his house,” Kadapa sub-divisional police officer Md. Sharif was quoted by PTI as saying.
