Srinagar: Several people have been injured in clashes between the police and protesters over a fire at a revered 200-year-old Sufi shrine, Peer Dastageer Sahib, in Srinagar. The protestors alleged that firefighters arrived late on the scene to douse the flames.

Meanwhile, the government has ordered a probe by the Kashmir divisional commissioner. Authorities say the fire began from four areas of the shrine taking over most of the roof, but there is still no word on the cause.

The 200-year-old Sufi shrine of Dastageer Sahib went up in flames early on Monday morning. Several fire tenders have been rushed to the location to douse the flames at the shrine mostly made up of wood.

The main relic inside the sanctum sanatorium is reportedly safe.
