HYDERABAD: Y Srilakshmi is now Qaidi No. 4637. Henceforth, she will have to stand in a queue holding a plate to get her breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Prison sources told Express that Srilakshmi would be kept in the prison's dormitory along with other inmates. The dormitory can accommodate 20 inmates. "She will have to live like an ordinary prisoner. She has been provided with a cloth mat, a pillow, a bedsheet and a blanket. No special facilities for her," the sources said.For lunch and dinner, Srilakshmi, whom the prison staffers will refer to just by her undertrial number '4637', will get a plate of rice with two chapatis, a vegetable curry, rasam and a bowl of curd. "Food is unlimited," the source said and added that she would have to stand in queue and wait for her turn to get food. For breakfast, she can have idli, upma or vada.
The suspended IAS officer surrendered in the Special CBI Court here on Friday after the Supreme Court had upheld the directions of the AP High Court which cancelled her bail granted by the Special CBI Court.It was around 3.45 pm when the 1988batch IAS officer, guarded by four youngsters and accompanied by relatives and wellwishers, arrived in the special CBI court. When she surrendered, the magistrate said to her: "Be cooperative and pray the God." Once considered one of the most powerful IAS officers not only in the state but also in the country, Srilakshmi stood in the court with her head down.Srilakshmi was arrested in the illegal mining case for her alleged role in allotting mining leases to the OMC owned by former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, who is also lodged in the same jail. The High Court had, on January 2, cancelled her bail and asked her to surrender in the CBI court before January 6, failing which the CBI could arrest her. The special CBI court granted her bail on December 3, 2011, a day after her threeday police custody had ended and she spent a day in the jail. The CBI had challenged the bail.
