New Delhi: Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Wednesday slammed controversial self-styled 'godman' Rampal over law and order issue in Hisar district of Haryana.
Rampal has been evading arrest and according to the police, he is still inside his Satlok Ashram at Barwala in Hissar district. His supporters continue to face-off with the police and have hurled petrol bombs at them.
Hundreds of people have been injured in clashes, including police personnel. 425 people have been arrested so far and over 15,000 others have been evacuated from the ashram.
Ravi Shankar tweeted, "There is a dire need for a Sarva Dharma council which can guide spiritual movements and help prevent situations like this. Leaders should not think they are above the law. Simplicity and sacrifice should drive the leaders. Events like this cause fear and disgust for religion and spirituality."
He added, "People of all religions who misuse faith for personal gain should be severely dealt with. At the same time, innocent leaders must be protected."
Even when Ravi Shankar tried to contact Rampal, he could not reach him. He said, "I tried to contact Rampal to talk some sense. His secretary first agreed to connect and then kept disconnecting."
As the situation is worsening in Hisar, the Ministry of Home Affairs is likely to deploy more forces."
