THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A month after hundreds of dead fish floated in the Sreevarahom temple pond, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided to cleanse and renovate the pond. The decision was taken in a meeting held here on Thursday. TDB president M Rajagopalan Nair said in a press release that the Chief Engineer has been asked to invite tenders for the renovation works, to be undertaken with the Rs 33 lakh allotted by the Devaswom Board. The meeting also decided to begin the works using the funds of the MP and the MLA in July. It was in May that dead fish were found floating over the Sreevarahom temple pond. The officials of the Department of Fisheries had attributed the mass death of fish to the presence of tar and oil in the pond. A proposal for using the pond partly for a park was turned down in the meeting.
