New Delhi: Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan carried on with his regular duties at the DMRC headquarters, a day after he submitted his resignation taking moral responsibility for the mishap at a construction site.

Sreedharan had submitted his resignation taking moral responsibility for the mishap at a construction site in south Delhi which claimed six lives.

Sreedharan visited the accident site at Jamrudpur before reaching Metro Bhavan on Barakhamba Road and attending a regular weekly meeting.

He went back to the site as soon as he heard about a second accident involving cranes malfunctioning, Metro sources said.

Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had on Sunday rejected Sreedharan's resignation, saying he needed to head the DMRC till the Commonwealth Games.

Dikshit had last night rejected Sreedharan's decision to quit from Delhi Metro "as the transport system and the country needed him."

"We respect his sentiments. But we also know that the Delhi Metro and the country need him. Not only he did good work for Delhi but also for the country," she said.
