Mumbai: Congress President Sonia Gandhi late on Tuesday night visited Matunga Road, one of the seven sites in the metropolis rocked by massive blasts.

She was accompanied by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad.

The leaders reached the Mumbai airport at around 0030 hrs and rushed to Bhabha Hospital where they met the injured and their relatives.

Patil deplored the heinous act, saying the Government will take all possible measures to ensure law and order in the wake of the serial blasts and appealed to the people to maintain calm.

Describing the blasts in Mumbai as "tragic and dastardly", Lalu Prasad assured that his ministry would launch all possible relief operations to mitigate the sufferings of the victims.

"The Government has enough evidence against the perpetrators of the blasts and would take stern action against the culprits and share all the information with the people at the appropriate time," Patil said.

"No vested interest can divide or create tension among Indians and at this hour of crisis we should come together and help the affected," Patil added.
