CUMBUM: A team from Survey of India (SOI) has begun an ecological survey in areas in and around the Mullaiperiyar dam here on Saturday.Based on a request from the Kerala Government, which wanted to know the ecological impact bound to occur if the storage level was increased, the SOI deputed a special team to carry out the survey have visited the dam site.The team would conduct a week-long survey of flora and fauna in the dam that had grown in the last 30 years after the storage level was reduced from the earlier height of 152 feet. Meanwhile, around 100 members of the Tamil Nadu Pensioners’ Association observed a fast condemning the Kerala Government’s stand on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue.The protesters also condemned the Kerala Government for acting against the interests of Tamils and demanded the Central Government to implement the Supreme Court orders. Similarly in Dindigul, members of Adhinam group and saints observed a fast condemning the Kerala Government’s demand to construct a new dam and also urged the government to protect the Mullaiperiyar dam.
