New Delhi: Several meat shops which were allegedly running without licenses were closed down in several parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
The meat shop owners were reportedly asked to shut their shop until their licenses are renewed as per the new government norms.
The meat traders will have a meeting today and likely to address the media about their future course of action, sources said while adding, “Most of the meat shops across Hussainganj, Sadar, Kasaibada, Chikmandi, Maulviganj were closed.”
In Muzaffarnagar district, several such shops were shut down in Budhana, Khatoli, Shahpur and Charthawal towns.
On Friday, a well known meat processing plant at Kairana town in Shamli district has been sealed after district authorities found "irregularities" during checking.
A team of district officials led by sub-divisional magistrate Vijay Prakash conducted the checking at Meem Agro Foods Pvt Ltd on Friday and sealed it, circle officer Bhushan Verma said. The company is having presence in 33 countries for exporting buffalo meat.
Slaughterhouses and meat shops allegedly running illegally have been closed down across Uttar Pradesh after a ban by the Yogi Adityanath's government.
