HYDERABAD: In view of the proposed road widening works to be taken up in the Greater Hyderabad limits, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to put up sign boards in the sites to inform owners and prospective buyers. It was found that several land owners were unknowingly constructing pucca houses close to the roads that will be widened in the near future. In some cases, unscrupulous owners were selling the land to people who do not know of the proposed road widening.Speaking to Express, GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu said that this idea was adopted in Bangalore where they fixed sign boards mentioning the width to which the road will be widened to caution the public against further construction or purchase of land.Meanwhile, the Total Infrastructure Project (TIP) scheme, which was proposed to be implemented in the new colonies in the peripheral areas of GHMC, will now be implemented in the entire GHMC area, the commissioner said.TIP will be implemented in the twin cities to widen roads, improve junctions, traffic islands, footpaths, parks and carry out other developmental works. The list of work is being finalised, Babu added. Once the list is approved by the standing committee and general body, the GHMC will invite tenders for the works. GHMC has also decided not to allocate any funds under TIP to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). The Water Board has now approached Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) seeking Rs 4,000 crore for the works.
