Shimla: In a major breakthrough, Shimla police claim to have busted an interstate flesh trade racket and arrested 31 persons including eight women.
The arrested persons were booked under section 5, 6 and 7 of prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act 1956. They were
produced in a local court today which remanded four persons including the male and female coordinator from Ludhiana and the third person acting as coordinator between the two and owner of the hotel were remanded to three days police custody.
The remaining 27 persons including seven women were sent to seven days judicial custody. On a tip off, a team of district police headed by Additional SP, Bhajan Negi raided a hotel at Shoghi, 14 Km from here last evening and found men and women lodged in eight rooms in the hotel booked by the group.
"We raided the hotel on a tip off and found men and women in objectionable postures in the rooms booked by the group and arrested 31 persons, including eight women, three coordinators and owner of the hotel", said Additional SP, Bhajan Negi.
During interrogation the girls confessed that they were adults and have come on their own for earning money. The youngest woman, mother of a child is 22-years-old while the men are in the age group of 25 to 50 years, he added. two coordinators including a woman were from Ludhiana and the third coordinator was acting as link between the two hailed from Rajasthan.
The men arrested from the hotel were also from Rajasthan while the women hailed from Ludhiana in Punjab. The Police also arrested the drivers of the vehicles in which the group members had arrived and also impounded the vehicles.
Investigations are in progress and more revelations are likely,police said.
