Dubai: Seeking to attract Indian tourists to some of its exotic locations, Sharjah will organise tourism road shows across five cities, including New Delhi and Mumbai, from Monday.
Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will conduct road shows in Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore as part of its efforts to create destination awareness.
"India is one of the most crucial and promising tourism markets for Sharjah, attracting thousands of tourists and visitors from the country every year," Director-General of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority Khalid Jasim Al Midfa said.
Sharjah, which is being celebrated as the Islamic Culture Capital for Year 2014, had received footfalls of more than 123,010 visitors from India last year, registering a sharp 41 per cent growth over the previous year.
"This is an ideal time to visit Sharjah, which is known world over for its celebration of culture, family and tourism festivals; 19 museums, art and culture events; luxurious hotels and beach resorts; diverse landscape; and various other tourist attractions," Khalid was quoted as saying by Khaleej
Times.
The roadshow will be held in cooperation with Air Arabia and Sharjah's hotel and tourism industry, will begin with Mumbai on September 15 and head over to New Delhi and Hyderabad on September 16 and September 18.
Promotional campaign will then move on to Chennai on September 19, followed by Bangalore on September 22. Prior to India, Sharjah has conducted campaigns in Europe and across the Gulf.
Sharjah is home to world-class universities and colleges at its University City attracting thousands of students from across the region and beyond.
