Six pimps were arrested and as many women rescued by sleuths of the Anti-vice squad (AVS) in a series of raids at several places in the city.
In the first instance, based on specific intelligence and subsequent surveillance, a police team led by Inspector S Santiago stormed an apartment in T Nagar. The team picked up two pimps, Sabeer (24) and Sumesh (29), and rescued two women, one from West Bengal and the other from Madhya Pradesh, from the flesh trade. Another prostitution ring operating from another apartment in the same area was also busted. Three pimps, identified as Kulsan (34), Ashok, (29) and Ameeth Shafi (28) were arrested and two women, one from Bangalore and other from Mumbai, were rescued from there. The AVS also busted a racket run by Purushothaman alias Abi and rescued two Kolkatta-based women. All the six arrested were remanded in judicial custody.
