HYDERABAD: The SCR has handled a record level of traffic during financial year 2011-12, in both freight and passenger sectors. It has crossed the highest-ever earnings for any financial year. The SCR crossed the milestone of 100 mn tonnes of originating freight loading in this financial year and loaded a record 103 million tonne, registering a growth rate of 7 percent, compared to 96.2 mt last year. The SCR's freight loading was mainly aided by coal from the Singareni collieries and traffic offered at Krishnapatnam and Kakinada ports. The SCR has achieved gross earnings of Rs 8,194 cr with additional incremental earnings of Rs 846.30 cr over last year's gross earnings of Rs 7,348 cr, posting a growth of 11.50 percent. Earnings from freight, 5,815 cr, constituted 71 percent of the total earnings and have shown a growth of 13 percent over last year. SCR excelled on the passenger front too. It carried 384 million originating passengers during 2011-12, which comes to 10.5 lakh passengers on an average, per day.
