HYDERABAD: Undeterred by their economically underprivileged backgrounds many poor girls wanted to pursue their dream careers with the help of Fair & Lovely Scholarships. Interviews for Fair and Lovely Foundation Scholarship 2011 were held in city on Monday. Out of 14,000 applications received from across India for Scholarships, 30 per cent response came from Andhra Pradesh. Nationally 400 girls were selected out of 14,000 applied for final screening. Off which 96 were invited from Andhra Pradesh for the interviews.Basaveswari from Chittoor district is a daughter of Haribabu who is working a coolie and is unable to support the education of his two daughters. Subsequently she wanted to complete M.Sc. computers and aspires to become a hi-tech Collector who can solve problems of many middle class people. Like her sixty plus girls who wanted to achieve what they dreamt, but unfortunately unable to pursue due poor financial background. Many with similar background today came for scholarships interview.Mohd Shahin who from Hyderabad doesn’t have father. She is currently pursuing her B.Tech. and wanted scholarship to complete BTech and then MTech. She wanted to go abroad. And earn as much as possible and come back and help people around her. Many girls narrated interest and tales. Rama, who is from Nalgonda is a daughter of a farmer. She works as a maid servant in couple of houses. And is now pursuing her M.A. English, she is very good in her studies and gets about 95% marks. Her communication skills are the best. She wanted to become a novelist. She has three sisters and one brother. She wanted to help them pursue their studies too. My father is unable to eke out living from agriculture. That is why I am working to help my family as well as to help myself. If I get scholarship I will be more confident to finish my studies, she said.Scholarships of up to `1 lakh are offered to any graduate, post-graduate and doctorate courses. This covers the total cost of education, including tuition fee incurred by the candidates to complete their courses.
