New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a CBI probe into allegations that Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and members of his family had amassed wealth illegally.
Lawyer A R Subhash alleged that Kumaraswamy and his family members had amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Rejecting the petition, Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakker imposed legal costs amounting to Rs 10,000 against Subhash.
Earlier, suspended BJP MLC G Janardhan Reddy submitted an application before the Karnataka High Court seeking its permission to produce the CDs containing Forest Minister C Chennigappa’s videographed claim in which the minister had alleged that Kumaraswamy had made hundreds of crores of rupees.
According to the application, the CDs also contain Chennigappa’s claim that he had received only Rs 3 crore and Kumaraswamy had made hundreds of crores of rupees, besides acquiring 750 acres of land.
Kumaraswamy has dismissed the evidence available on the as fabricated, and said the cheque transactions relating to his family is open to public scrutiny and the scrutiny of the Income Tax Department.
