New Delhi: An eye for an eye. For Naushad, a Malyalee salesman based in Saudi Arabia, this is coming true, quite literally.

A court in Saudi Arabia has ruled that one eye of the 30-year-old Naushad be gouged out and donated to a Saudi national who lost his after a scuffle with him.

Naushad reportedly got involved in an alercation with Naif Muthef in 2003 after the Saudi youth complained that a battery charger he had bought from the Indian was damaged.

In the scuffle, the Saudi lost his right eye.

Naushad has been held incommunicado in a Damman jail after his arrest. According to the court, if he doesn't agree to have his right eye scooped out, he will have to remain in prison forever.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said he will endorse a clemency petition and seek royal pardon from the Saudi king Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on behalf of Naushad?s family.

Naushad's wife Suheela Beevi has also petitioned the Indian Embassy in Riyadh for her husband's safe release.

"This incident happened in 2003 and we hoped that he (Naushad) will be pardoned. But the decision has shattered our hopes. He hasn't even seen his daughter, we can just pray to Allah for his safety," Suheela said.

The Indian embassy in Riyadh has reportedly appealed for clemency.
