KOCHI: Model Engineering College (MEC), Thrikkakara, led the point tally on the penultimate day on Sunday with 142 points in ‘Sargam-2012’, the Arts festival being organised by the Cochin University of Science and Technology, (Cusat). The School of Engineering (SOE), Cusat, stood second with 109 points, while Cusat main campus was third with 89 points. So far, competitions in 39 events have been held, in which around 28 colleges from across the state have participated.Mithun Mohandas of School of Engineering, Cusat, bagged top honours in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Folk Dance categories. He also led the SOE team to victory in the group-dance competition. The contestants made it tough for the judges with impressive and spirited performances in Bharatanatyam, Oppana, Mappilla Pattu and Clay-modelling events held on Sunday.Akhil G A of MEC bagged the first prize in clay-modelling. Jessin Philip of MEC came first in the painting (oil) and caricature competitions. Greeshma R Nath of the College of Engineering Munnar stole the show in fancy dress, while Karthika of KVMCE and IT, Cherthala, stood first in Rangoli-making . Haroon Rasheed and team of School of , Cusat, clinched the first place in the western music competition. Archana M Nair of College of Engineering, Kidangoor, took the top honours in mono-act while her college-mate Vinayachandra Dev took the top spot in classical music. The valedictory function of the festival will be held at 6 pm on Monday.
