Sanju gives a bizarre reason for not acting in Tollywood. He was one of the first heroes to make his macho physique a fashion statement. From roles like 'Khalnayak' to Lt Col YK Joe in 'LOC Kargil' and comedy roles like that of 'Kabir Nayak' in 'Dhamaal' to his cameo in 'Ra.One', Sanju Baba has been there and done that. One surprising fact is he has also done a cameo in a Telugu movie too, named 'Chandralekha'.
Asked why he didn’t choose to do a movie in Tollywood thereafter, he replied, "They never paid me for that, which is why I thought of not choosing to do one."
'Chandralekha' was released in 1998 and was directed by KrishnaVamsi and produced by Akkineni Nagarjuna and V Ram Prasad. The film stars Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishna and Bollywood actress Isha Koppikar in the lead roles. Sanjay Dutt made a guest appearance in it, which was his first and last in a Telugu film. This film was a remake of the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam film 'Chandralekha' directed by Priyadarshan.
Talking about Hyderabad, Sanjay Dutt said, "I really like Hyderabad. It is a great place. I come here quite often for my movie shoots."
He also mentioned about his friends from the south. "I have good friends here from Tollywood like RaNa, Nagarjuna Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh. They are really nice people."
Sanjay Dutt is working with RaNa and is also paired with Lakshmi Manchu for one of his upcoming movies, 'Department'. Sanjay Dutt was in the city to endorse Venky's Xprs, a quick takeaway service chain, which serves customers with a range of chicken delicacies. "I love chicken", Sanjay said and added, "And this is precisely why I was looking forward to it and Venkys are like family to me."
