ELURU: Farmers’ view will be taken into consideration while deciding the remunerative price of the oil palm, said Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) chairman Ashok Gulati.The CACP chairman along with the members of a committee appointed by the Union government, on Wednesday, visited oil palm farms in Vempadu village of Dwarakatirumala mandal and a oil palm factory in Pedavegi village. Speaking on the occasion, Gulati said that the committee was on a country-wide tour to list out the major grievances of the farmers. A comprehensive report on the farmers’ issue will be submitted to the Union government soon and ryots’ view will be taken into consideration while deciding the minimum support price of various crops, he said.Commenting over the low profit from the farm sector, the CACP chairman said that steps would be taken to popularise high- yielding varieties which require low investment.Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao said a fund of Rs. 12 lakh would be spent to take up oil palm cultivation in six acres in the district. West Godavari collector GVani Mohan said that the district administration would submit a report to the state government on farmers’ plight soon. Paddy purchasing centres were opened on a large scale in the district for the convenience of farmers, she said.Later, the team inspected the paddy fields and interacted with the ryots in Uppalaguptam village in Konaseema area, where farmers had declared a crop holiday this kharif season. Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices committee members Dr Ashok Vishan Das, former MLA Ghanta Murali Ramakrishna, Directorate of Oil Palm Research director Arul Raju, Agriculture department joint director DJ Kumar and others were present.
