He allegedly threatened to kill the son of a Punjab and Haryana HC Judge.

Chandigarh: After dodging police and arrest for over a month, Ranjit Bajaj, the son of a former bureaucrat couple in Punjab, who was booked for attempt to murder, was nabbed in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening, police said.

During the last few weeks, the police in Panchkula, around 10 km from Chandigarh, had also sent its teams to Mumbai and Delhi in search of Ranjit but they returned without clue to his whereabouts.

The police on Wednesday raided his house located in the upscale Sector 16 in Chandigarh.

Panchkula District police chief Maneesh Chaudhary told IANS: "We have arrested Ranjit from his house in Chandigarh. We will seek details about his whereabouts during the last one month at the time of interrogation. Police will present him in court tomorrow (Thursday)."

Ranjit, the only son of retired bureaucrats BR Bajaj and Rupan Deol Bajaj, was booked for attempt to murder following a complaint from Gurmohan Singh Bedi, son of Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge MMS Bedi.

Police sources told IANS that Ranjit and his mother misbehaved with the police squad that went to arrest him.

"Rupan Deol Bajaj tried to shield Ranjit by stopping the police from entering the house. She got very angry and used bad language. Even Ranjit was shouting at the police and threatening them of dire consequences," a police official, requesting not to be named, told IANS.

"The police are planning to file a case against his mother for preventing them from executing their duty," he added.

Last week, Ranjit filed an application in a Panchkula court for anticipatory bail in the case. Reacting to the plea, the court asked the Panchkula police to submit their reply by March 5.

The police had also issued look-out notice and red corner notice against Ranjit.

Gurmohan had alleged that Ranjit, along with two private security guards, hit him with weapons at the North Park resort in Panchkula over a parking argument at the winter ball of St. John’s Old Boys Association (SJOBA).

He said Ranjit threatened to kill him after a verbal duel.
