In a shocking incident in Uttar Pradesh, 50-year-old man Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched in the Dadri district just because he was rumoured to have eaten beef.
A mob broke into the man's house and attacked him, his son and even the women in the house. Akhlaq was beaten to death by the mob while his son was left severely injured.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has denied all the allegations and claimed that the story was cooked up to target them. Six people have been arrested in connection with the attack.
Police has stepped up the security to prevent any untoward incident. "So that things don't flare up and disturb law and order in the region, authorities are talking to the people involved from both sides," Noida DM NP Singh said adding that there will be a magisterial enquiry into the lathicharge or firing or whatever happened.
The victim used to live his mother, wife, younger son and daughter. His elder son works with the Indian Air Force and is currently posted in Chennai.
