New Delhi: In view of recent incidents of fans venting their ire on Mohammad Kaif and his family, Kanpur Police is providing round-the-clock security to the cricketer.
A group of people, claiming to be supporters of the Lok Janshakti Party, had vandalised the house of Kaif on November 27 after his poor show in the ongoing one-day series against South Africa.
This was the second such incident after the 2003 World Cup when a poor start by the Indians led to attacks being mounted on Kaif’s home.
Kaif is in Kanpur to take part in Uttar Pradesh's Ranji Trophy tie against Karnataka. He has been put up in a three-star hotel separately for security purposes with Kanpur Police not willing to take any chances.
The UP skipper has also been provided with a police officer armed with automatic weapon for round-the-clock security.
Also, a team of security personnel would accompany Kaif whenever he steps out from his hotel, in a police vehicle.
The armed police officer would be positioned outside the boundary while Kaif would be playing and the security team would wait outside the stadium.
Security arrangements had also been made at the hotels where the rest of the Uttar Pradesh team and Karnataka were staying.
