BANGALORE: Residents of HMT Ward want the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities to ensure proper infrastructure at various localities of the ward. For instance, the condition of the main road that connects Goraguntapalya with Tumkur Road is a cause of concern for the residents. Some people dug up the road a few weeks ago which resulted in two-wheeler accidents. “Many garment workers use this road to reach various garment units. The mud on the road is causing a lot of problems for motorists in the night since there are no sufficient street lights,’’ said Bhojaraj Kulal, a garment unit employee.Lack of bus shelter is other problem of this ward. “It is tough for us to wait for buses, especially during monsoon. I am not able to understand why have the BBMP authorities failed to put up a bus shelter here,’’ asked a garment unit employee.Another big concern in this ward is shortage of water. There are a few areas where water is being supplied once  a week. “We are get Cauvery water just once a week. It will be a great help if the BWSSB supplies water on alternate days,’’ said Vyjayanthimala, a housewife.Areas such as Muneshwaranagar, Yeshwanthpur Industrial Area, Platinum City, Netaji Nagar, Peenya Industrial Area II Phase, CMTI Quarters, Civil Engineers Quarters, Goraguntepalya are the important areas in the HMT Ward. The BBMP had allocated `2 crore to take up development works in the year 2010-11. Asha Suresh, Corporator, claimed that many storm water and open drains were strengthened and roads asphalted. ‘’The BBMP had concretised many roads at Peenya village, Thanualli, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar and other areas,’’ said Asha Suresh. To mitigate water woes, the BBMP had made arrangements to dug 14 borewells. “The BBMP had made arrangements to supply water through tankers at various slums,’’ said Asha.Agreeing that heaps of garbage has become a nuisance, the Corporator said that shortage of civic workers was the main reason for garbage piled up at various localities in the ward. “There are only 20 civic workers as against the requirement of 60 civic workers,’’ she said. The Corporator said that a `2-crore worth proposal was sent to the BBMP to develop a playground and park at Peenya. She added that she will take up every possible measures in her ward to ensure that all civic woes are addressed properly. She concluded saying that this year will see a lot of progress.
