Chennai: Telugu director Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao, known for remake films such as 'Sudigadu', 'Dongodu' and 'Annavaram', feels the art of remaking is challenging and requires creativity as well.
"The most common misconception is that remakes need no creativity. But the truth is that the task of remaking is challenging and needs some level of creativity," Rao told IANS.
"All remakes are not merely the art of reproducing content. Films I have remade over the years may have presented the same story, but the film is made keeping in mind different target audiences. An eye for the apt cast is also very important in the case of a remake," he added.
Seven of 10 Telugu films made by him to date have been remakes. His latest was spoof-comedy 'Sudigadu', one of the most successful Telugu films of last year.
"As a director, I strive to supersede the original with my remake, which in most cases is tough. But I have been quite lucky," said Bhimaneni.
Rao's next venture, which is yet to go on floors, is the official remake of Tamil comedy-drama 'Sundarapandian'.
"I am contemplating on the cast and crew for the film. It is likely to go on floors soon," he said.
