Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani gets Padma Vibhushan posthumously
Over 100 people will receive Padma awards and 10 out of them will get Padma Vibhushan.

New Delhi: Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani is awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously on the eve of Republic Day on Monday. The Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards for the year 2016 will be announced today.

Over 100 people will receive Padma awards and 10 out of them will get Padma Vibhushan.

Former Comptroller and Auditor General Vinod Rai was awarded Padma Bhushan. Industrialist Shapoorji Pallonji and Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava are also to be awarded.

Superstar Rajinikjanth is awarded Padma Vibhushan and Anupam Kher Padma Bhushan. Names of actors Manoj Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra are doing the rounds for the award. Saeed Jaffrey will be awarded posthumously. Film directors SS Rajamouli, Madhur Bhandarkar are likely to be honoured.

Singers Udit Narayan, Girija Devi, Malini Awasthy are likely to be awarded with the top civilian honour.

World No 2 badminton player Saina Nehwal and tennis ace Sania Mirza are likely to receive Padma Bhushan.

Dancer Yamini Krishnamurthy, Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar, Indian architect Hafee contractor, special public prosecutor Ujjawal Nikam are likely to be awarded the Padma award.

The Home Ministry had invited nominations for various categories of the top civilian honours in May 2015 and the last date for receipt of the nominations for the Padma awards 2016 was September 15, 2015.

The award seeks to recognise work of distinction and is given for distinguished and exceptional achievements, service in all fields of activities, disciplines such as art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, civil service, trade and industry.
