Reduce Focus on Netas and Prioritise Tackling Crime, Telangana CM Tells Cops Amid Spate in Cases
After coming to power last year, Revanth Reddy had reduced the number of cars in his convoy so that prolonged traffic jams could be avoided, setting an example for politicians

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, in light of rising crimes in Hyderabad, has asked police officials to reduce security to politicians and arrest criminals instead.

“Sometimes, police show excessive enthusiasm in providing security to politicians. The same energy should be shown in controlling crime,” he said. The chief minister, who was speaking in a meeting at the Command Control Center (CCC) on Tuesday in the presence of inspectors and other elite security groups, also observed that children of police families are not excelling in life because officials spend less time with them due to their busy schedule.

After coming to power last year, Reddy had reduced the number of cars in his convoy so that prolonged traffic jams could be avoided.

During the meeting, the chief minister announced that a police school will be set up in 50 acres of land belonging to the elite force Greyhounds. Children of Home Guards to DGP will be allowed to pursue their studies in the special schools which will offer free education from Class 6 to post-graduate courses.

Continuing his strong stance against drug abuse, Reddy appealed to the police to perform like soldiers deployed at borders and save the state from drug trafficking. He expressed concern that drug abuse had become a social menace in villages and towns and noted that ‘ganja’ was being smuggled into Telangana from the Andhra-Odisha border.

“When we went to interact with the family of one victim in Singareni Colony and another at Outer Ring Road, they all said they were addicted to ‘ganja’. Many parents are complaining that their children are addicted to drugs. The main reason for the situation is that the police system is focusing on political surveillance and neglecting such crimes in society,” he added.

Remembering brother

Reddy said the children of police personnel find it difficult to disclose their family background because society looks at them differently. “This should change and children should feel proud to say that their fathers and brothers are from the police department. My elder brother, Bhupal Reddy, who worked as a constable in Wanaparthy, raised me. I became a chief minister today only because of my elder brother’s upbringing.”
