Rare surgery performed at KIMS hospital

KOCHI: A 34-year-old woman has undergone knee replacement surgery on both legs at KIMS Hospital here.A team of doctors under Orthopaediatric surgeon Dr Pappanachery performed the surgery. Both kneecaps were replaced at the same time. The woman has been fitted with artificial knees made from oxinium ceramic. The patient had been unable to walk for a long time because of pain.The oxinium implant was used as the woman was  young. Furthermore, the knee would last much longer than the regular variety.The hospital authorities said that the woman was doing fine and would be discharged at the earliest.
