While Maharashtra government on Tuesday claimed that former Mumbai Police commissioner Rakesh Maria will continue to head the Sheena Bora murder probe till investigation is completed, sources say that the written order has not yet been received by him.
According to sources, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis signed the transfer order on Monday night after meeting Maria. But, Maria got to know about the transfer only on Tuesday morning.
In an unusual action Maria, who personally interrogated the accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, was shunted out of the post and transferred on promotion as Director General of Police Home Guards.
Eyebrows were raised as 58-year-old Maria swapped places with Ahmed Javed, who was appointed the new Mumbai Police Commissioner. Ahmed is a DG-rank officer and the Commissioner's post has been upgraded. Ahmed is due to retire in the next 4 months.
Refuting allegations about his proximity to former Star India CEO and Indrani Mukerjea's husband Peter Mukerjea, sources added that Maria had not met Indrani and Peter until the Sheena Bora case came to light.
