Ragging death: HRD seeks report from HP govt
Nineteen-year-old Aman Kachroo died after he was brutally ragged.

Shimla: The Centre has sought reports from the Himachal Pradesh government and the Medical College on the tragic death of a 19-year-old student allegedly due to ragging last week.

Both the Prem Kumar Dhumal government and the Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College at Tanda in Kangra district have received faxes from the Union Human Resource Development Ministry in this regard.

Himachal Principal Secretary (Health) Deepak Sanan said that the fax received on Friday had sought details on the death of Aman Kachroo, the first-year medical student hailing from Gurgaon, allegedly due to ragging.

He said the state government would give a reply next week on the incident which had sent shock waves across the country.

Medical College Principal Anil Chauhan said the college too had received a fax from the HRD Ministry seeking details about the incident.

"We immediately informed them that four senior students are in police custody and a Magisterial probe into the ragging incident is on," he said.

Chauhan said a Medical Council of India (MCI) team would visit the college next week to collect information about the incident.

"MCI officials telephoned me on Friday saying they have been directed by the Union HRD Ministry to inquire into the death of Kachroo," Chauhan said.

The Principal said the college would hold a meeting with parents next Saturday in the light of the ragging incident.
