Chandigarh: Even as controversy rages over legal fee due to top lawyer Ram Jethmalani for defending Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, with Jethmalani now offering to do it for free, the Captain Amarinder Singh government in Punjab has decided to hike fee of prominent lawyers, including Ram Jethmalani and Abhishek Manu Singhvi, from Rs 2.8 lakh per appearance per petition to Rs 3.3 lakh.
Top-rung lawyers placed in the panel are referred to as the 'A1' category and will be paid the revised rates.
However, the Punjab government has clarified that the advocates empaneled to conduct and defend its cases in the Supreme Court of India and other courts outside Chandigarh were not being hired on a monthly retainer, as erroneously suggested by some media reports.
