Puducherry Governor denies links with Hasan Ali
Iqbal Singh said Congress MLA Amalendu Pandey approached him for a passport for someone on health grounds.

New Delhi: Puducherry Lt Governor Iqbal Singh on Saturday met Home Minister P Chidambaram and dismissed allegations of his links with Hasan Ali.

Iqbal Singh said that Congress MLA Amalendu Pandey approached him and he wanted passport for someone on health grounds. "The applicant claimed that his brother was critically ill," Iqbal Singh said.

The ED had asked the Home Ministry for permission to question Iqbal Singh in connection with the passport issued to Hasan Ali - suspected to be India's biggest tax defaulter.

Iqbal Singh is alleged to have helped Hasan Ali get his passport while he was the Congress leader in charge of Bihar. Now, as Puducherry governor, he enjoys immunity and therefore the ED must have the Home Ministry's permission to question him.

Sources said summons have been already issued to Iqbal Singh.
