London: Hundreds of people on Sunday demonstrated in front of the British Parliament in protest against the brutal police crackdown on Ramdev at Ramlila ground in New Delhi earlier this month.

"We, the people of Indian origin all over the world are deeply depressed, embarrassed and pained by this vulgar display of naked power," said Sunita Poddar, member of Action Against Corruption and Trustee of the Patanjali Yog Peeth (UK) Trust.

Security forces swooped down on Ramdev a little past midnight on June 5 and detained him after firing tear gas shells and resorting to lathicharge on his supporters to end his day-old indefinite hunger strike on black money issue.

Ramdev was demanding immediate action to bring back black money stashed in foreign tax havens. The dramatic police action came after government and

the 46-year-old yoga guru had accused each other of betrayal.

"No justification of any kind can condone these vicious actions on the Indian Citizens," said Poddar, who was leading the protest.

She said by holding this protest "we would like to show our solidarity with the citizens of India." "We would like to show our support to Baba Ramdev and

Anna Hazare and all other leaders who are fighting against corruption in India," she underlined.

The protesters were wearing black armbands as a sign of solidarity with the people of India. She underlined that corruption is "the root cause of poverty" in India.

The protestors observed a 2-minute silence to remember "our brothers, sisters, friends and relatives who were brutally hurt when the police raided their peaceful demonstration on 5th June," she said.
