CHENNAI: Support for commissioning of Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) seems to be growing stronger with one more group extending its support for the cause on grounds that the plant would help improve power generation.R Chandran Jeyapaul, founder-president of Tamil Nadu Kshatriya Nadar Movement, said they will be forming a panel in support of KKNPP , which will meet Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “We pressure the authorities to commission the plant as early as possible as it would help improve power generation in the State,” he said. “The coast is shielded by Sri Lanka. So, the tsunami can never affect the plant as it did in Japan. The only probability is that the seawater can withdraw and adequate measures had been taken to tackle this possiblity as well,” he added. The movement  has convened a meet with other community leaders, scientists and like-minded activists on the issue. N Sethuraman, founder-president of All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam, said they wanted the Koodankulam people to understand that the plant was safe. He said the radioactive isotope as used in nuclear reactors was now being used in treating cancer.
