HYDERABAD: With the ongoing RTC strike affecting long-distance services, people are forced to depend on private operators to visit different parts of the State. And private travels, it seems, are making the most of thew situation. The bus fares to different destinations are found to be just as different. “Bus fares are already very high during weekends and on festive days. So, why wouldn't they not make use of the present situation?" asked Suresh, who booked tickets for Vijayawada. But Hussain, who was sitting at a travel agency counter, countered, “We have not taken advantage of the situation by hiking fares. We have our regular customers anyways.”Maqbool Ahmed, a travel agent, in fact claimed that his business had come down due to the ongoing Telangana agitation. “The strike has created fear in the minds of the people leading them to think twice before booking tickets. They are worried that they could be stopped anywhere on the highways,” he said. The fare for a trip to Vijayawada from Hyderabad in non-AC buses is currently hovering between Rs 200 and Rs 300. As for Volvo buses, the charge is anywhere between Rs 800 and Rs 900. However, Salim Travels' proprietor, Abdul Razzak, felt there was no change in the situation."Whether RTC runs or not, it does not bother us. We have nothing to do with the RTC," he claimed.
