GADAG: It was a great response to the call from seers of north Karnataka to agitate against the state government's land acquisition process, which saw the participation of more than 65 pontiffs.
Siddhalinga seer of Tontadarya mutt convened a meeting of pontiffs of the region at Tontadarya College of Engineering in Gadag on Thursday which ended with the government being urged to issue a gazette order halting all land acquisition immediately.Annadanishwar seer of Mudargi said that the decision of the government has brought interim relief to the farmers. "It is our duty to fight for the farmers when they are in trouble."

Siddharama seer of Naganur mutt said seers should not waste their time only behind the four walls of the mutt, and involve themselves in public causes.

'Stay away from Bagalkot'

Siddhalinga seer said Veerashaivas intended to serve the society. Veerashaiva pontiffs and heads of other religion should reject outmoded rituals.
