The media advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sanjaya Baru, said that the report about the PM's resignation were baseless.
New Delhi: Rumours that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered his resignation on Friday in the wake of the Nayveli Lignite Corporation disinvestment fiasco were officially dismissed as "totally baseless and utter nonsense".
"It is totally baseless and utter nonsense", Prime Minister's media advisor Sanjaya Baru said when asked to comment on reports that Singh had quit or offered to quit a day after he had to put on hold on disinvestment process in the wake of DMK's threat to pull out of Government on the NLC issue.
The Prime Minister's meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi ahead of the weekly Congress Core Group meeting added gist to the rumour mills, particulary in the stock market.
