"Playing gay was worth it" : Kapil Sharma
The lead actors of 'Dunno Y...' say that the film has been their perfect launch pad, in spite of the controversies

For debutant actor Kapil Sharma who stars in Dunno Y Na Jaane Kyun, the film was the most unbelievable launch pad he was hoping to get. Despite controversies and searing attacks from several political parties, Kapil says that the film has catapulted him to so much of popularity and publicity that very few other actors in Bollywood would have achieved.

The soft-spoken Kapil, while talking to IBNLive at his Bandra residence (the same house that was gheraoed by members of a political party couple of weeks back) admits, “The entire experience has somehow enriched me. It has won us so many laurels abroad. For a small Bollywood film of our scale and especially for a newcomer like me, so much of popularity is unthinkable.” He adds emphatically, “Despite all the uproar, in hindsight, I think doing this film was totally worth it.”

Tension has mounted so much on his family that Kapil refuses to even give his future Bollywood career a thought. He points out, “In my mind now, all that I can hope for is that this film finally gets a release.” Speaking to us a day before the release of his film, Kapil adds, “Even after the film is released on Friday, I will need a week to put all this behind me.”

While Kapil says that his family and neighbours have remained supportive all along, his co-star Yuvraaj Parashar says that he is hoping his father starts talking to him after seeing the film on Friday. Yuvraaj who belongs to a conservative family from Agra says his father has threatened to cut all familial ties. He says, “Last week, I was going to Delhi. I phone up my mother to ask if I could come to Agra. She told me not to come home as my father would create some drama.”

For Yuvraaj who is also a trained Kathak dancer, Dunno Y... is opening up many doors. In fact, he tells us he has just turned down an offer from a popular TV show for the part of the male lead. He says, “I don’t want to do TV serials as I think as an actor there is not much you do in serials and soaps. However, I don’t mind doing a reality show. I want to concentrate on Bollywood currently. “

The film has already been showcased in several countries including Australia, Germany, US and UK and has won the Trikone Film Fest Award in Sydney.
