New Delhi: In the wake of a spate of terror threats on email and misleading mails to key government figures and administrative officials, the government has decided to put cyber cafes under surveilance.
In first such move within the country, the Delhi Police on Friday issued orders to all cyber cafe owners to ask for photo identity cards from the users.
The cyber cafe owners have also been asked to maintain a register for entry and exit of each and every cafe user.
On Thursday, one such email came to Rashtrapati Bhawan, threatening to blow up the presidential palace. The mail was later found to be originating from Indore. The email that read, 'eliminate president house', was sent to the President's website.
Earlier, the little-known Islamist group Lashkar-e-Qahhar had in an email claimed responsibility for the Mumbai train bombings. It had also sent an email to an Indian TV station, warning that it was planning more attacks against government sites in India.
The mail was found to be originating from Bhopal and police even arrested the person who wrote the mail. He claimed himself to be an mischief monger, creating a predicament for the police.
