London: Escaped peacocks have taken over a suburban street in Greater Manchester, with some of them invading a grandmother's home and trashing her kitchen.

Jenny Gibson popped to her neighbour's briefly and left her front door ajar, only to find five of the birds in her home upon her return. The 67-year-old said it was "like a scene from The Birds" after they trashed her kitchen and ruined her blinds.

Other neighbours in Stockport, Greater Manchester, are too afraid to go outside after the birds escaped from a farm and bred, The Telegraph reported.

There are now believed to be at least seven peacocks running free. Gibson said: "They've been hanging around my garden for weeks, and I just popped over to my neighbour's one day and left my front door open.

"When I came back there were three in the hallway and two in the kitchen." I got three out with a broom but the two in the kitchen were frightened. They were pooing everywhere.

Now, the residents are taking drastic measures and have lined their fences with garden furniture to prevent the birds from sitting. Gibson said she had called animal welfare charities and even the police about the menacing birds.

"We don't even know how many there are. I've seen up to seven in one go. They don't belong in my street, they need to be moved to a zoo or a stately home," she added.
