HYDERABAD: In another shock to the citizens of Greater Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is going to increase the water tariff for all categories of consumers and also the water tanker supply rates with effect from December 1.The revised tariff will help the board generate an additional revenue of Rs 20 crore a month. With the revision of this tariff the HMWS&SB can meet the entire operational and maintenance costs of Rs 52 crore a month. The last comprehensive revision of water tariff and sewerage cess was undertaken in May 2002 and was rationalised in 2004 with the introduction of differential slab rates for consumption below 200 KL (kilo litres) of drinking water. One kilo litre is 1,000 litres. HMWS&SB managing director Adhar Sinha told reporters for domestic category users (3,61,743), the existing common rate for slums and the base rate of 0-15 slab were separated. However, a concessional rate of 30 percent less for slums on the minimum slab of 15 kilo litre (KL) per CAN will be extended. The slab using higher than the base slab (0-15 KL) will be charged proportionately higher rate.
