A committee headed by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday selected the names of five persons for appointment as State Information Commissioners in the existing vacancies.
The names will be recommended to Governor K Rosaiah.
Leader of Opposition, Vijayakant, a member of the panel, however, did not participate in the meeting, while the other member, Finance Minister O Panneerselvam, attended the meeting, an official release here said.
When the State Information Commission was formed in 2006, there were two members apart from the Chief Information Commissioner.
In 2008, the number of Information Commissioners was increased from two to six.
Of the six members, one member TR Ramaswamy passed away in October 30, 2010, while four members retired on attainment of the age of 65.
