A blend of mystique feeling and poetry distinguishes Jalaluddin Rumi’s poems from those of other mystique poets, said Chief Secretary K Jayakumar.
He was releasing the book ‘Pakshiyude Pattu’, the Malayalam translation of Rumi’s poems by Iris Koileo, head of the department of Malayalam and Mass Communication at St Xavier’s College, at Press Club here the other day.
“When we measure life superficially, Rumi’s poems ask us whether this is the way we should live life. When one goes through Rumi’s poems, it redefines the relation with life in a new manner,” he said.
He recollected his translation of Rumi’s poems some seven years back and also spoke on life and literature of Rumi. The foreword for ‘Pakshiyude Pattu’ was also written by him. The first copy was received by Fr Sunny Jose S J, principal of St Xavier’s College, Thumba.
Kurias Kumbalakuzhi, State Information Commissioner presided over the function.
Mukhathala Sreekumar introduced the book and Fr George Valyapadathu of Media House Publishers welcomed the gathering.
