HYDERABAD: The state government is contemplating to computerise entire paddy procurement operations and make the information available online. Besides, it has also directed government agencies like Markfed, IKP, FCI to increase their procurements substantially to meet the demand.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy convened a high-level meeting to review paddy procurement and prepare an action plan for kharif 2012 here on Tuesday.Talking to newsmen later, civil supplies minister Sridhar Babu said the government has taken steps to procure kharif paddy from October second week. It was estimated that paddy production would be around 130 lakh MT as against last year’s 122 lakh MT. A total of 230 lakh MT of paddy crop was estimated during the year. Steps have been taken to construct additional godowns to store 25 lakh MT. The chief minister has also directed the departments to appoint special officers to ensure smooth procurement.
