Beijing: Achanta Sharath Kamal's run in table tennis at the Beijing Olympics came to an end on Wednesday. He lost his second round match to Austria's Weixing Chen 1-4 in the second round of the men's singles event to bow out of the Games.
Sharath took some time to warm up and lost the first game 5-11 to his 36-year-old opponent.
He had a game point in the second but went on to lose it 12-14. The third game went the Austrian's way and Sharath fought back to save the fourth game.
But Chen closed out the match in a closely fought fifth game to win the match 5-11, 12-14, 2-11, 11-8, 10-12.
Chen played an attacking game and Sharath wilted under pressure, struggling to get his placements right.
The Indian paddler, undone by his unforced errors, could manage to win just one game in the match, which lasted just 32 minutes.
Neha Aggarwal has already crashed out of the women's singles event after losing her first round match.
Another disappointment for India came in wrestling when Sushil Kumar lost his 66kg freestyle category first round bout to Ukraine's Andriy Stadnik.
Stadnik who finished third in the 2007 World Championships proved to be a far superior opponent for Sushil who himself had finished 14th at the Athens Olympics.
The Ukrainean dominated from the very beginning and the lack of experience on India's part led to a very one sided match in 66kg freestyle bout.
Sushil, who got a bye in the qualification round, lost 3-8 to Stadnik.
Now only one Indian remains in the wrestling competition with Rajiv Tomar presenting his challenge in 120kg category.
Yogeshwar Dutt had lost his quarter-final bout in 60 kg freestyle category to Kenichi Yumoto of Japan, on Tuesday.
