New Delhi: A day after four Indian Army troops, including an Army Captain, was martyred in Pakistani shelling, Vice-Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand, said India’s "action will speak for itself".
"Since the beginning of last year, we have not only had cases of infiltration, but also cases where our soldiers were mutilated. So we have also started responding appropriately. Recently, there was a statement laid in the Parliament that we are responding in equal or even greater measure," Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand said.
Chand further said, “In the incident that happened yesterday (Sunday), there was cross-border shelling. One of the shells landed where the officer and his men were stationed and unfortunately, we lost them. We will continue giving a befitting reply. Our action will speak for itself.”
In a fresh round of ceasefire violation by Pakistan, four Army personnel were killed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector. Capt Kapil Kundu, riflemen Ram Avtar and Subham Singh and Havildar Roshan Lal died in the firing. The one injured has been identified as Lance Naik Iqbal Ahmed.
Pakistani forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate firing of small arms, automatics, and mortars around 1110 hours along LoC in Bhimbher Gali sector of Rajouri district on Monday, said a senior army official.
