CHENNAI: A woman has made a writ plea in the Madras High Court for a direction to the State government and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence not to arrest her husband, who has been facing charges under the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activties Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA).Justice V Dhanapalan, before whom the writ petition from PMA Katheeja Umma of Triplicane came up for hearing, ordered notice to the authorities concerned.According to petitioner, her husband Zahir Hussain was the proprietor of Hawa Exim, involved in export and import business, at Egmore. He was also a law graduate and assisting persons/companies which faced difficulties in their dealings with the customs department. In the process, her husband earned the wrath of the customs officials, more particularly, C Rajan, Additional Director-General, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Chennai, and he had been sigled out for hostile treatment.Petitioner sought to restrain the authorities concerned from arresting and incarcerating her husband pursuant to a detention order passed by the government under Sec 3(1) of the COFEPOSA, recently.
